19,077 companies went into liquidation in 2009

Figures from the Insolvency Service show pain of the recession

There was a 26% increase in personal insovencies last year over 2008, with a mixture of bankruptcies, individual voluntary arrangements and debt relief orders. A record number of companies were declared insolvent - 6,335, a 1% increase over 2009 and 19,077 companies went into liquidation, a 23% increase over the previous year.
